About Me

Deb Clark, Editor

I spent nearly twenty-five years with an agriculture and energy supply company working in IT and as a business analyst. I recently left that company to focus on growing my own editing business, Manuscript Maven. A few years ago, I started looking at what I wanted to do in my next phase of life. I knew I wanted to become an editor to help authors get their stories out to the world. But I knew I needed a different sort of education from the business degree and corporate experience I had. So, I completed the copyediting certificate program at the University of California at San Diego and started taking on manuscript editing projects on the side. I’ve recently completed additional schooling on indexing and cookbook editing.

Outside of my professional work, I have a music performance background in piano and voice. I toured Europe with the Eureka College Chorale and Madrigal Singers, and I have performed with the Peoria Area Civic Chorale and other community choirs throughout the years since college.

In my spare time, I love to read (of course—what editor doesn’t like to read?), and I read just about anything, but I’m a sucker for a warm and fuzzy romance. I also love to cook and garden. I have a few raised-bed vegetable gardens, an herb garden, and a hummingbird and butterfly garden. I use the fresh vegetables and herbs in the meals I create for my family and friends. And I enjoy sitting on my deck with a cup of coffee or glass of wine (depending on the time of day) and watching the different birds and butterflies that come to my yard to savor the flowers I planted for them.

I reside in Bloomington, Illinois, with my amazing husband and our two brilliant kids.
